The release of the Xiaomi Mix ignited the current smartphone full screen trend and disrupted the market by replacing the physical infrared sensor of a smartphone with software and ultrasound.

Elliptic Labs machine learning based proximity sensor is now deployed on more than 100 million smartphones around the world.

The removal of the physical infrared sensor allows the screen to reach all the way to the top of the phone by removing the top bezel that was the standard since the introduction of the original iPhone 2007.
